Driving The Used 2017 Mercedes-Benz-AMG GLE

There are two ways to drive the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe. Be it in GLE43 or GLE63. One is a Mercedes-Benz, with the Dynamic Select set to Comfort mode. The audio system plays your finest tunes, and you luxuriate in the comfortable interior. And in that role, the GLE Coupe is more than satisfactory. However, dial Dynamic Select to Sport or Sport+ and head to the hills. 

The GLE Coupe’s personality changes dramatically, and unfortunately, not for the better. While the GLE43 provides very good acceleration, and the 9-speed automatic transmission clicks off shifts without a thought, the suspension struggles to keep the 5,000-pound body in check. There’s plenty of grip from the big tires. However, unless the roads are smooth, the GLE Coupe isn’t satisfying to drive briskly as the suspension jerks its passengers around over every undulation.

Engine & Transmission 2017 Mercedes-Benz-AMG GLE

The twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 below the hood of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GLE43 Coupe puts out 362 horsepower through a 9-speed automatic transmission on its way to an all-wheel drive system with a serious 40:60 rear-drive bias. However, if you want to burn as much gasoline as possible, the GLE63 S Coupe puts out a mind-blowing 577 horsepower from its handcrafted 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8. The V8’s power goes through a 7-speed automatic. Note that this is a performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system — the GLE Coupe is not meant as an off-road machine. However, you can tow with it: A Class III hitch is available and can haul up to 7,200 pounds.
